Birdlife Polokwane Bird Ringing Demonstration - 4 March 2017
 
It's 4 am and amidst the calls of Fiery-necked Nightjars, six of us (Billy Attard, Dirk Botha, Marianne McKenzie, Quentin and Marja Hagens and I) arrived at our faithful ringing station at the Aloe Ridge waterhole in the Polokwane Nature Reserve. Die opkoms vir die uitstappie was baie swak, aangesien dit die keer 'n goeie nat seisoen is, wat 'n paar skaars watervoels mag trek en dit normaalweg 'n gewilde uitstappie is. Team Wat-Kyk-Jy - Birding Big Day 2016
 
Our Birding Big Day started in somewhat wet conditions as we headed out to our first few spots at 2am. The stop-start rain made finding nocturnal birds sightly difficult, and after a slow start we managed to tick Western Barn Owl, Southern White-faced Owl, Pearl-spotted Owlet, Rufous-cheeked Nightjar and Fiery-necked Nightjar before heading off to a hill for the dawn chorus. ... Eastern Cape Trip Report (Charles & Lois Hardy)
 
The Eastern Cape offers some interesting birding opportunities with many varied birding habitats and some endemic species we still needed to see, so we decided to travel to the Garden Route. We broke the long journey with a most enjoyable overnight stay in Smithfield. After an unexpectedly good dinner at Nick's Place B&B it was up early in search of a Grey-winged Francolin (pictured below) which we located on a farm road not far from town before breakfast. ...
